Are you ready to shape the legal future of a global IT organisation? As Senior Legal Counsel DD & IT you will serve as global Senior Legal Counsel with focus on Data/Digital & IT within Novartis Operations Legal as well as key lawyer specialized in the data and information technology field within the Global Procurement, Data/Digital and IT Legal team. Advises Data, Digital & IT function and Data, Digital & IT Procurement regarding complex agreements & projects and act as a legal business partner to relevant Data/Digital &IT (Procurement) clients on global level.
This role is based in Barcelona (Spain) but could also be in Hyderabad (India) or London (UK).

About the Role
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Act as a legal Business Partner to the Country Head in all activities relating to the contractual negotiations and statutory obligations.
- Draft complex transactions and contracts independently and provide complex and contextual legal advice and guidance (incl. training of key customers in specified legal areas).
- Identify risks relating to business activities and potential solutions thereof; raise business’ awareness of legal issues and ensure early legal involvement.
- Conduct robust risk assessments that substantiate recommendations, and advise on and determine appropriate actions to support the management decision processes.
- Manage significant disputes and litigation and/or investigations and make decisions independently within a broad framework.
- Provide expertise in one or more substantive areas (e.g. Transactions, Litigation, HR and Regulatory).
- Lead large or complex legal projects and transactions based on deep legal expertise and provide legal support for commercial initiatives and activities.
- Lead, direct and develop the legal resources within one division or across all divisions in the country (depending on whether divisional or cross-divisional role) and guide, counsel and support the work of more junior Legal counsels, paralegals and support staff.
- Reporting of technical complaints / adverse events / special case scenarios related to Novartis products within 24 hours of receipt -Distribution of marketing samples (where applicable)
- Proactive issue and risk management -number of issues resolved -Decreasing number of common themed issues -Quality of reporting and communication -Quality and effectiveness of relationships and communications within stakeholders -Cost vs.
What you’ll bring to the role:
Essential criteria:
- Bar exam
- Min. 8+ years minimum post bar experience, gained either within a multinational corporation and/or top tier law firm
- Substantial, relevant experience in IT law, IT security, intellectual property rights and data protection in leading large and complex legal transactions in DD&IT, and managing high caliber disputes independently
- Fluency in English (speaking & writing). Any additional language skills are considered a plus
Desirable criteria:
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, and experience working in cross-functional teams, demonstrating professional and culturally sensitive work ethics
- Strong experience in handling a high volume of activity involving multiple, often complex projects simultaneously, fast paced environment, able to set priorities, and deal positively within tight timelines and demanding clients
